When most people think of the future, what they are thinking of is “Healthcare.” They talk about the importance of keeping their bodies healthy. They worry about the diseases that are sweeping across the States and affecting so many Americans. They worry about the effect of the economy on health. What they are not thinking of is what will happen to them when they are no longer here to share their lives with us.
When we consider how the life you live now will affect the person who follows you around into the future, it is easy to see that the answer to the question is health the most important thing in life is “yes.” Without good health, your body can’t support you and keep you alive. Without a strong immune system you can find yourself fighting off the germs that invade your body on a daily basis. With no energy, you just won’t get out and about and your quality of life will diminish.
There is no denying the reality of all of this, but there is also no denying the impact that bad health has on our spirit and how we feel about ourselves. We worry about our weight and appearance. We avoid social situations because we feel uncomfortable about the way we look. We worry about the illnesses that seem to be sweeping the nation as well.
None of this is to say that a person shouldn’t worry about his or her health or should avoid getting routine checkups and screenings. It’s just to say that it’s a smart person’s responsibility to do what they can to keep their body and mind in the best shape possible. While the world is being consumed by a raging obesity epidemic, the healthiest citizens of the world are still struggling to stay alive. People in the developed world are still living much longer than those in the developing world, and this has got to do with the higher levels of income individuals living in the developed world have compared to those living in the less developed world.
The good news is that with proper exercise and a nutritious diet, you can live a long and productive life even in today’s world where prevention is better than cure. Prevention is the key. In fact, this is one of the most important things a person can learn because prevention goes a long way. The best medicine is prevention.
Learning to manage our health is an important thing we need to learn. The world is a dangerous place and it does not have to be that way. The single most important thing a person can do for his or her life is to find a healthy balance between work and personal life. Being productive is necessary in today’s society.
